HOLIDAYS: Late shoppers must share the blame

Re: “Santa’s sleigh delayed” (thenewstribune.com, 12-26).

I am disturbed by the attitude that people who ordered items over the weekend, just a few days prior to Christmas, are angry that packages were not delivered in time.

We must take some of the blame. Peak season starts in November. Christmas is Dec. 25 every year!

My son works for United Parcel Service. I have seen him go to work at 11 p.m., not returning home until after a 23-hour day sorting more packages than a truck could possibly handle. And people yelled at drivers for delivering after 9 p.m. When you have more than 500 deliveries on a truck and some need signatures, it takes at least 14 hours to get everything delivered.

How about pre-planning? Shame on Amazon for promising something that really could not be done.

Thank you to all the employees at FedEx and UPS for going the extra mile, giving up being with family and friends the last two months, giving up their Christmas Eve with family so that they could be out on the roads delivering every package they possibly could.

How about turning this story into a positive? Thank you, UPS and FedEx, for handling and delivering a record number of packages. Thank you for going the extra mile, and thank you for your customer service.
